I have found that using white latex caulk for my ear liner glue has helped me in several ways. First drumming has been stopped and if you do get some caulk on the hair it is easily brush away once the caulk starts to dry, other glues are very difficult to clean up.
The white shows through the ear giving it a nice base coat which allows for less time on the finishing phase.
Finally it cost very little and goes a long way. It also works very well as a hide paste. Your dry time may vary, but it does allow for adjustments here and there if needed for a day or so.
